Fazenda da Lagoa

Origin / crop
A 100% Arabica coffee from Brazil. The farm is situated in the heart of Minas Gerais province. The crop is cultivated and processed using sustainable methods to create a truly excellent coffee.

About this coffee
This gourmet coffee is a speciality. The are so rare and sought-after that they are handled like pearls and that is what gives them their name of pearl bean.
Normally, two beans grow inside a coffee cherry. But sometimes just one single, round bean will develop. The full intensity of the expressive, elegant aroma is concentrated in this one bean. This unusual coffee treat is known as a pearl bean or peaberry, and it is hand-picked from the bush.
The coffee plants grow in mineral-rich soil at an altitude of 950 m – 1200 m. This growing site, at a high altitude for Brazil, combined with the climate, produces a somewhat lower caffeine content and a low acid content.

Flavour
Because just one bean develops in the cherry, the full flavour which would normally be split between two beans is concentrated in one single bean.
The coffee has a pleasant acidity and an intense body. It leaves a slightly sweet taste in the mouth with fruity and spicy notes.

Recommendation
To savour the full vigour of this coffee, we recommend enjoying it as an espresso. However, this concentration of aromas can also be complemented by milk and sugar if preferred.
